POSEY Hoot

The surname POSEY is probably of English origin. John Posey , the progenitor of the Posey family in southeast Louisiana, was born around 1790. Census records show that John Posey probably was from Wilkerson County, Mississippi. His parents are unknown. He married on May 9, 1818, Marguerite Palmer, daughter of Archibald Palmer and Hannah Carter, while residing in West Feliciana Parish. Marguerite was previously married to a William Gready. An 1840 West Feliciana census shows John and Marguerite to be residing there with two sons and two daughters. By 1850, John was deceased. One of John and Marguerite's sons, Hezekeah (H.A.), continues this family line in regards to the interest here. He married Lavinia Sullivan in 1852. Hezekeah served during the Civil War where he enlisted in May 1862 in the 4th Louisiana Infantry. He later is shown as a Private in Logan's 11th and 17th Consolidated, Arkansas. He was hospitilized March 10, 1863, at Jackson, La.
