PONTHIEU
Alexander PONTHIEU was the first of that family name in Avoyelles. He was the son of Edouard Ponthieu , natives of Bordeaux, France. Alexander's date of birth is not on any found records. He married Marguerite Johnson (Jeansonne), daughter of Charles Jeansonne and Marie Rose Brasseau, at Avoyelles, on July 9, 1808. Marguerite was born at the Opelousas Post on July 9, 1789. There is known to have been eight children from this union, all being born in Avoyelles. Alexander died before 1830 while Marguerite died before 1870. The Ponthieu family name was continued throughout Avoyelles by Alexander's son, Edouard , who married Emilia Gagnard.
