MELANCON Hoot

Pierre MELANCON was born in 1632 in Scotland. His parents are unknown. Pierre, a tailor, was mentioned in one historical report as a Scotsman whose mother lived in Boston. It is believed that he went to the British Isle, then to Acadia. He is believed to have arrived in Acadia with the British in 1657, along with his brother Charles Melancon . They settled on the north side of the Annapolis River, a short distance to the east of Scotch Fort. Pierre was a Protestant, but converted to Catholicism at the time of his marriage. He was one of the principle founders of Grand Pre', around 1680. Melancon Village was named for he and his brother.

Pierre married around 1664 at Port Royal a Marie Marguerite Mius d'Entremont, daughter of Phillipe d'Entremont and Madeline Helie. Children born to this union were Phillipe, born 1666; Cecile, 1668; Pierre, 1670; Marie, 1673; Marguerite, 1676; Isabelle, 1679; Jean, 1681; Madeline, 1684; Anne, 1686; and Paul, 1691. Jean Melancon ,, son of Pierre and Marie, married Marguerite Dugast. From this couple, the family line of Melancons of interest here continues.
