MAYEAUX
Pierre MAYEAUX de Lormaison, the progenitor of the Mayeaux family in Avoyelles, was born in about 1699 at Maintenoy, Bishopric of Amiens in Picardy, France. He came to Louisiana aboard the vessel "LaProfond" which sailed from LaRochelle on June 10, 1720. Pierre married Marie Cellier (Sellier), who was also a passenger from France on the same vessel.
It is known that five children were born to this couple. Their first child was born at the Arkansas Post, the second born at the Natchez Post, the third born at Pointe Coupee Post, the fourth born at New Orleans, and the fifth born at Pointe Coupee. It is obvious that Pierre and his family moved around the colony to an unusual degree. Pierre died at Pointe Coupee on December 16, 1747. His wife had died before January 29, 1739, the date of her sucession. After Marie's death, Pierre had remarried on February 22, 1739, to Francoise Manne, widow of Laurent David.
Francois Pierre Mayeaux , first born of Pierre and Marie, was born at the Arkansas Post. Francois married at Pointe Coupee on February 11, 1745, Nicholle Prevost. She was a native of Natchitoches and the daughter of Nicholas Prevost dit Collet and Yves Dubos. Of this union were born seven children. Of interest to Avoyelles history and genealogy are Joseph, Jean Baptiste, and Pierre . Francois died at Pointe Coupee on June 9, 1765.
Joseph Mayeaux was born August 25, 1750, at Pointe Coupee. He married on November 30, 1774, at Pointe Coupee, Adrienne Bordelon, daughter of Nicholas Bordelon I and Adrienne Rondot. Adrienne Bordelon died June 11, 1796. There were nine children born to this couple.
Joseph Mayeaux's eighth child was Adrienne Mayeaux , born around 1793. She married on July 12, 1808, at Avoyelles, Pierre Bordelon II, son of Pierre I and Adelaide Lacour.
Antoine Mayeaux I , second child, was baptized on March 1, 1778. He married on April 19, 1805, Constance Frederic at Avoyelles.
Clemence Mayeaux was baptized on November 24, 1782. She married Joseph Ducote, son of Pierre Ducote II and Henriette Rabalais. She was born about 1776.
