LEMOINE Hoot

Most of the LEMOINE family of Avoyelles are descendants of Guillaume Lemoine , born in Nortre Dame Parish, LeHarve, France, in 1699. Guillaume was a sailor (patron de chaloupe) and an employee of the Company of the Indies when he married at New Orleans on April 4, 1725, to Marie Sanmerine called L'Este. She was a native of Palatinate, Germany, and the daughter of Edmael Sanmerine and Anne Marie Edelmier. Guillaume was a resident of Pointe Coupee Post from about 1740 to his death on August 8, 1771. Of the marriage between Guillaume and Marie, there were eight children born. Marie Sanmerine died at Pointe Coupee Post on November 15, 1741.

The son of Guillaume and Marie responsible for the Lemoine name in Avoyelles was Jean Baptiste Lemoine . He was baptized at Pointe Coupee on September 24, 1741. He married at Pointe Coupee on May 20, 1760, Catherine Simon, daughter of Jean Simon and Marguerite Marssine. He remarried Agnes Clause.
