LACOUR
The LACOUR families of Avoyelles are descendants of Nicholas LaCour , native of St. Jean des Champs, Bishopric of Contanee, France. He was born in 1699. Nicholas came to Louisiana in 1720 as a passenger aboard the vessel "Loire" from Laurent, France. He married at New Orleans on November 9, 1726, Perrine Brette, the daughter of the deceased Louis Brette and Elizabeth Roy. Louis had died at Mobile; however, Perrine was living in New Orleans at the time of her marriage. Records show that Nicholas was a resident of Natchez at the time he was married. His parents were Antoine de la Cour and Francoise Duclos of St. Jean de Champs, France. Nicholas and family were residents of the Natchez Post at the time of the Indian Massacre in November, 1729. Among the victims of the massacre was a son of Nicholas. Nicholas next appears in the Pointe Coupee records as early as 1737 when a child of his was baptized there.
There is an account of fourteen children born to Nicholas and Perrine between 1727 and 1751. The LaCours in Avoyelles are descendants of Nicholas' son, Nicholas II , and grandson, Cyprien I .
