LACHNEY
Antoine LACHNEY I, a native of Montral, Canada, was born the son of Jacob Lachney and Catherine Fremont. Antoine was the first of that family to settle at Avoyelles Post. Antoine I married Naneta (Anne) Carmouche, the daughter of Joseph Carmouche and Marie Magdeleine Ducote, on January 15, 1793. Naneta was born at Pointe Coupee on May 15, 1769.
At the Avoyelles Post, Antoine I actively served as an appraiser of property, witness of official documents, and arbiter of dispute, all in assistance to the Commandant and the Alcaldes. In many cases, he served jointly with Marc Eliche, the founder of Marksville, La.
There were five children born of this union, all being born at Avoyelles.
