HEBERT Hoot

Today in Louisiana, the surname HEBERT is the most populist French name in the state. Like many other French names in Louisiana, the Heberts can trace their ancestory back to Acadia and France.

The progenitor of the Heberts in Louisiana was Jacques Hebert. He was born 1600 at LaHaye Descartes, Parish of Balesne, Touraine, France. He married Marie Juneau. They had at least three sons;

Antoine was born in 1621 at the same location as his parents. He married in 1639, in France, Genevieve LaFrance, also from France.

Antoine, Jacques, and Etienne arrived in Acadia in July, 1640, from a new recruitment conducted by Charles de Menou, and under the guidance of Germain Doucet, Lord of LaVerdure, Captain of the Arms of Pentagoet.

Census of Port Royal in 1671 listed;

Antoine listed his occupation as a cooper.

Etienne was born in 1625 also at LaHaye Descartes. He married in 1650 at Port Royal a Marie Gaudet, the daughter of Jean Gaudet and Nicole Coleson. Their children included

Etienne died in 1670 at Port Royal.
