GREMILLION
Louis GREMILLION was the first, and as far as it is known, the only Gremillion to emigrate from France to Louisiana. He was born on March 13, 1714, at Courcival, France. Louis was the son of Toussaint Gremillion and Marie Brebion of Courcival. Louis' grandparents were Julien Gremillion and Marie Gommard, also of Courcival.
Louis married at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, German Coast of Louisiana on October 14, 1747, Marie-Josephe Robillard, daughter of Louis Robillard and Marie Magdeleine Cordier. Marie-Josephe was a native of Illinois. Louis and Marie-Josephe moved from the German Coast to Pointe Coupee Post sometime between March 1749 and May 1750. The family of Louis Robillard can be placed at Pointe Coupee at about the same time.
Louis and Marie-Josephe had thirteen children. The Gremillions of Avoyelles stem from Francois Louis Gremillion , third child and first son of Louis and Marie-Josephe. He was born at Pointe Coupee on November 1, 1752, and died before 1810. Francois married on February 9, 1779, at Pointe Coupee, Perrine Berza, daughter of Joseph Berza and Antoinette Lemoine. She was born on October 17, 1761. There were nine children born of this union, all born at Pointe Coupee. Seven of the nine moved to Avoyelles with their mother after the death of their father.
Cyprien Gremillion , eight child of Francois and Perrine, was born in 1796. He married at Avoyelles on July 18, 1816, Clemence Rabalais, daughter of Jean Baptiste Rabalais III and Marie Louis Bouchard. There is known to have been three children born of this union. Cyprien died before 1827, whereafter his widow married his youngest brother, Martin.
