GOUDEAU Hoot

According to family tradition, the GOUDEAU family carried on a record of medical service, as naval surgeons, to the kings of France for four generations in the 17th and 18th centuries. Two brothers, Francois and Michel, served as surgeons in the Louisiana colony.

Michel Goudeau, son of Charles Goudeau and Marie Anne Dergny, was born on March 8, 1713, at LaRochelle, France. Charles Goudeau's parents were Edme Goudeau and Edmee Porier. Marie Ann Dergny was the daughter of Michel Dergny and Marie Bourdelos. Michel was married at Mobile on December 13, 1735, to Marie Therese Huchet, the daughter of Marc Antoine Huchet and Mariette de Kernion. Michel can be placed at Fort Toulouse des Alibomonts on February 29, 1736. He served as surgeon and "garde magazin" of the fort. Fort Toulouse was located on the Alabama River, near the present site of Selma, Alabama. Michel is also named in a census of 1752 of Fort Kaskaskia, Illinois. It is believed that he arrived there from New Orleans in 1751. Michel next served as surgeon at Pointe Coupee Post, where he died on January 1, 1765.

There were five children born to Michel and Marie. Antoine Goudeau , son of Michel and Marie, married at Pointe Coupee Post on January 12, 1762, to Marie Jeanne Roy, daughter of Joseph Roy and Perrine Lacour. There are eleven children known born of this union. Land claims suggest that Antoine and family settled at Bayou Rouge prairie, moving from Pointe Coupee in about 1784.
