FRUGE
The FRUGE name in Louisiana descends from a single progenitor, Pierre-Francois Fruge, son of Jean Fruge and Michelle Villian, natives of Chany, France.
Pierre-Francois was born in 1724 at Chany, France. Upon arriving to the New World, he shortly was married in June 1754 to Catherine DuMoulin, daughter of Pierre DuMoulin and Marie Gairin, at St. Charles Church of the First German Coast. Five years later, the couple moved to Pointe Coupee. Several of their children were born there. However, by the mid-1770's , Pierre and family had settled in the Praire Fakaitaic (Indian word for turkey hen) near the present site of Eunice. There Pierre became one of the pioneer farmer-stockmen in the western part of old St. Landry Parish. Pierre-Francois died on August 5, 1784, at the age of 60, at Eunice.
Pierre-Francois and Catherine had six children;
- Pierre- Antoine
- Jean Pierre
- Augustin
- Nicholas
- Joseph
- Francois
Pierre-Antoine was born in 1755, married Susan Burns, and died in 1819. Jean Pierre was born in 1770 at Pointe Coupee, married Eleanor Olivier in 1790. Augustin married Eloise Marcantel in 1804. His sucession is dated 1827.
- Nicholas married Marie Anne Olivier
- Joseph married Marie Fruge

Francois moved his family to Avoyelles Parish.
The subject of interest here continues through one of Augustin's sons, Onesime (Zemay), who was born in 1820. Zemay married his second wife, Edvise Deville. They were parents to Celima (Sedimone) Fruge , who married Jeff (Thomas Jefferson) Berwick. Celima was born in 1839. Records show that the parents of Edvise Deville to be Louis Deville and Celine Marie Jeansonne. However, records show this Edvise to be born in 1845. Records also show a Onezime Fruge married to Elizay Savoy on February 15, 1841.
