DESHAUTELS Hoot

The first DESAUTELS to immigrate from France to Canada was Pierre Desautels called Lapointe. He was the son of Thomas Desautels and Marie Buisson of Malicorne in the Diocese of Mans, Province of Maine, France.

Pierre was baptized in 1631. He married twice, his second wife being Catherine Lorion, daughter of Mathurin Lorion and Francoise Morin. Catherine Lorion was baptized in 1636. Pierre was here fourth husband. There was issue of two sons from this marriage. Pierre died on November 19, 1708, followed by his wife Catherine who died on April 20, 1720, in Montreal,Canada.

Pierre Desautels II was baptized September 13, 1677, at Longue-Pointe, Canada. Pierre II, also called LaPointe, married Therese-Angelique Thuillier on January 12, 1699. She was the daughter of Jacques L'Huillier and Jeanne Bernard. The records show Fourteen children were born with this marriage.

Jacques, being the tenth born, was baptized at Montreal on November 22, 1720.

Pierre II died on August 11, 1753, at Longue-Pointe.

Therese-Angelique died on January 20, 1765, also at Longue-Pointe.

Jacques Desautels, called Lapointe, is the progenitor of the Desautels in Louisiana. He married Anne Stephan, daughter of Jean Stephan and Anne Francoise Roland, at Pointe Coupee on May 1, 1775. Anne Stephan was born on October 1, 1738. She was the widow of Laurent Bordelon.

We know of eight children of this marriage, all being born in Pointe Coupee. Jacques Desautels died at New Orleans in November, 1771. Anne Stephan died and was buried at Pointe Coupee on September 20, 1773.

Jacques Deshotels II, born March 20, 1759, married Felicite Fontenot, daughter of Pierre Fontenot and Louise Doucet. There is record of ten children from this union. From such records, it is evident that Jacques and family settled at Opelousas Post.

Israel Deshotels, son of Jacques II and Felicite, married Adrienne Dauzat (they were first cousins) at Avoyelles on June 27, 1810. Adrienne was the daughter of Antoine Dauzat II and Angelique Deshotels and had seven children.
