CARMOUCHE
Joseph CARMOUCHE of New Orleans was the progenitor of the Carmouche family of Avoyelles. His date of birth is not on record.
Joseph was the youngest of six children born to Jean Baptiste Carmouche called Lorrain who married Anne Alexander Chennette, daughter of Vincent Alexandre Chennette and Marie Pou, in New Orleans on February 6, 1726.
Jean Baptiste was deceased before November 13, 1753 his succession date on August 23, 1778. Real property included a "plantation outside the city" and a household lot on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
Joseph married on August 21, 1764, at Pointe Coupee Post, a Marie Magdeleine Ducote, daughter of Pierre Ducote I and Marie Magdeleine Cable. There's record of nine children of this union, all born and baptized in Pointe Coupee.
The earliest mention of Joseph in Avoyelles Post cival records is dated May, 1795, whereby he had made a land purchase. However, it does appear that Joseph moved his family to Avoyelles as early as 1785.
