BOUDREAU Hoot

The many BOUDREAU families living in Acadia before the Expulsion of 1755 are all descends of Michel Boudrot, a native of LaRochelle, France.

Arriving in Acadia around 1642 with his wife Michelle Aucoin, Michel became a "Lieutenat-general" of the King at Port Royal by the year 1686. His several sons spread throughout Acadia and after the Expulsion, like their compatriots, the Boudreauxs were exiled to various points along the North American seaboard, to England, and to France.

An early Boudreaux settler in the Teche area was Augustin-Remy Boudreaux, who came to Louisiana as as orphan at the age of 13. He came with on the Breaux families from Maryland.

By 1777, Augustin had joined the local militia in the Attakapas and about five years later had married Judith Martin, settling on Bayou Bourbeaux near Grand Coteau. Most of Augustin's descendants remained in the Grand Coteau area for much of the nineteenth century, until some started to venture out to other areas.
