Armand
Joseph Marie ARMAND (also called Armant,Harmond) was a native of Metz in the Province of Lorraine, France. He moved to Canada and was a soldier at Louisburg, Novia Scotia. His wife was Cecile Normand. He and his family left Louisburg after its' capture by the British in 1758. He can be placed at Pointe Coupee as a merchant in the 1760's. The first reference that is found of this family at Pointe Coupee is in the marriage of three daughters in 1769. The record also states that Cecile Normand was deceased.
Joseph remarried at Pointe Coupee on September 14,1775, Marie Therese LeGros, daughter of Jean Baptiste LeGros and Anna Drouillion. Joseph and family moved to Natchitoches Post where six known children were born. The first born of this second marriage was Joseph Marie Felix (Athanase) Armand, born July 10, 1776. He was named after his baptismal sponsor Athanase de Meziers of Natchitoches. This Joseph Armand became the progenitor of the Armand family in Avoyelles.
Athanase Armand married at Avoyelles Post on January 31, 1801, Celeste Gauthier, daughter of Guillaume Gauthier and Elizabeth Enet. Of this union, there was issue of nine known children. Of special interest here is their second born, Joseph Armand, born in 1802. He married on December 19, 1825, Aglae (Azalie) Dufour, daughter of Valery Dufour and Marie Rabalais.
