Andrus
ANDRUS is an example of a Gaelicized Scottish surname,Andrews, belonging to an early Anglo-American family in southwest Louisiana. About 1780, Benjamen Andrews and his wife Marie Hargrove and several children migrated apparently overland from South Carolina to Louisiana..They were among several Americans of the Protestant faith who arrived in southern Louisiana during the last quarter of the 18th century, eventually mixing with the predominant French population. They settled along Bayou Plaquemine Brulie, near à present day Church Pointe, La.
Upon arrival, the family included five sons:
- James, married Louise Hayes in 1780
- Joseph, married Marie Hayes in 1782
- Ben Jr., married Martha Hayes in 1788
- Solomon, married Rachal Garrett in 1788 and Sarah Clark in 1793
- Jean Baptiste (John), married Anastasie Savoie
